What Is Black? Zine Locations

With support from the Pittsburgh Office of Public Art, WIB? is proud to provide zines as supplements to each episode. Each zine has bonus content from the episodes, as well as Feel Notes, and more info about each guest.

BOOM Concepts + Black Unicorn Library Reading Room

BOOM Concepts is a creative hub based in Pittsburgh dedicated to the advancement of black/brown and LGBTQIA creative entrepreneurs.  BOOM Concepts serves as a space for field building, knowledge sharing, peer to peer mentorship, and storytelling.  In 7 years time, BOOM Concepts has curated 50+ exhibitions on-site, paid out over $75k in artists and contract fees and produced 200+ events across the country.
The Black Unicorn Library and Archives project is a Black queer feminist community library. We serve as a space for learning, exchange, dialogue, joy, and growth through reading and art. The Black Unicorn is a beacon of inspiration fueled by the genius of Black women’s stories and is a collection reflecting the rich unfolding legacy of people across the Diaspora. We center the literary and artistic contributions of Black women, Black queer, transgender, and gender-nonconforming people and honor the far-reaching influence our courageous storytelling has had on the lives of generations worldwide. We explore libraries as sites of possibility, the relationship between literacy and liberation, and bring a unique experience and lens to material collection, information sharing, and community building.

CLP- Hill District is open for borrowing books, CDs, DVDs, graphic novels, and other media. The library also has free meeting rooms available to the public as well as programs for kids, teens, and adults. 


Kelly Strayhorn Theater (KST)
5530 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206
Kelly Strayhorn Theater (KST) is a non-profit community performing arts center in East Liberty, advancing live art through strategic vision and community collaboration with two venues running along Penn Avenue. KST’s Alloy Studios (5530 Penn Ave) is a cultural hub in the heart of East  Liberty, and the historic Kelly Strayhorn Theater is located in the thriving business district at 5941 Penn Avenue. More than 20 years after its founding, KST continues to use its broad reach to impact the contemporary arts and the community.
